Yesterday we received the news that Red Dead Redemption 2 is not scheduled for release until Spring 2018. To soften the blow perhaps, Rockstar Games also released all new screenshots from the game, featuring a wealth of information.
While we have no doubt that over the coming weeks fans will analyse every pixel of the released screenshots. Today we’ve tried to compile our own analysis of the screenshots to share with you.
First up we have a man standing in what appears to be the steam clouds of a railway train. What’s especially interesting about this shot, is that the man is duel wielding. A feature which was not present in the previous title, appears to be confirmed here.
The next screenshot appears to take place in a huge forest. Reminiscent of Tall Trees from the first game, it appears to be very similar to the shot we saw in the announcement trailer. One tree appears more substantial than the rest, perhaps a Redwood tree?
Next we have a shot of a stagecoach travelling across a wide, open plains area. One of the riders leading the convoy appears to have a fur based saddle. This could mean horse customisation this time around, or perhaps this is specific to this character. Riding atop the stagecoach appears to be a man baring a remarkable resemblance to Landon Ricketts from Red Dead Redemption.
The next screenshot features a train crossing a bridge and looking incredibly epic as it does so. This shot really shows off the upgraded graphics of Red Dead Redemption 2, and some amazing particle effects. Looking at the train we can see a larger smoke stack, resembling the steam locomotives of the 1880’s – 1890’s. This could be a clue as to the time period of the game.
We now see the familiar figure from the announcement trailer riding into a town at dusk. The street does not appear familiar from the first game, so we are definitely looking at a new location. If we look closely, foot prints appear to be dynamically created in the muddy town street. Perhaps he’s going to help Dolores pick up those consistently slippery cans.
If the first screenshot wasn’t confirmation enough, here we see duel wielding in action. The engraved pistols could mean weapon customisation similar to Grand Theft Auto V. The ring on the shooters middle finger appears to bare a “D” emblem. Could this be a younger version of Dutch?
The final, cinematic screenshot shows us the beauty of the night sky, and four riders facing the camera. With the riders faces obscured, it’s difficult to gather any more information from this shot. Though the riders silhouettes do appear to resemble the silhouettes from last years promotional art. One thing we can be sure of is that the much anticipated sequel will be matching the scenic beauty of Red Dead Redemption.
No doubt further analysis in the coming weeks will reveal more secrets within the screenshots. What are your thoughts on the new screenshots, have you found anything hidden amongst them? Let us know in the comments.
